IBM Internals should use the Software Updates site that resides inside the firewall to reduce the load on this external site.
As of FixPak 41 for Warp 3 and FixPak 11 for Warp 4, device drivers have been removed from the Base FixPak's. They now are in XR_D0xx series of FixPak's, and can be applied to any language FixPak. The order of applying the FixPak's, base or device driver doesn't matter.
In the table below,
Device Driver FixPak 1 | RSU | Diskettes |
Device Driver FixPak 2 | RSU | Diskettes |
Use of the Software Updates facility is entirely at your own risk.
Users can report problems by following the instructions in the PROBLEM.TXT file at ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/defect_submission/.
If RSU does not work for you, you can download the diskette images, create diskettes and do a manual install.
This page will assist you in setting up your OS/2 system to enable Remote Software Updates (RSU). RSU will allow you to download and install OS/2 FixPaks to your system (or for transport to other systems) without the need to create diskettes.
Here you will find the latest RSU-enabled FixPaks for OS/2 Warp 3.x and OS/2 Warp 4.0 -- for each of the countries supported by OS/2.
Additionally, links are provided to the Corrective Service Facility (CSF) and FixPak diskette images, US and NLV, for those customers who want (or need) to do a manual install.
Software Updates (RSU) packages will be downloaded to your system and installed once they are selected.
Please note that some of these packages will automatically restart your machine so that the installation process can be completed. Therefore, it is recommended that you exit out of all other running programs and save any data that you do not want to be lost before selecting any of these packages.
All FixPaks on this site will be installed from an IBM trusted server. All packages have been checked for known viruses.
Follow the appropriate link below to enable RSU for your Browser.
If you can't use RSU on the system you need to update, there are a couple ways you can make use of the RSU ZIP files to do a "Redirected Install" of a FixPak from your harddrive without creating diskettes.
By far the easiest way to setup a "Redirected Install" of a FixPak is to use RSU from a OS/2 system that has Internet connectivity.
RSUINST will download the Corrective Service Facility (CSF) code needed for that FixPak, then launch FTPINSTL.EXE. Using the FTPINSTL.EXE GUI, select the "Download and Unzip" option. I would also recommend selecting the "Keep ZIP files" option as well. They can be deleted manually once all have been downloaded and unzipped.
The FixPak zip files will be downloaded to a $rsutmp$ directory on the drive you selected. Once all have been downloaded, they will be unzipped. If you did not select "Keep ZIP files" then the zip files will be deleted.
You can now move this $rsutmp$ directory to a network drive or burn it on a CD for others to use to install this FixPak to their OS/2 system.
To use, simply change to the $rsutmp$ directory (or root of the CD) and enter os2serv.
You can also manually complete the steps that RSU automates for you as follows (we use FP11 for english-us as an example here):
The latest versions of RSUINST.EXE, UNZIP.EXE and RXFTP.DLL can be found here. Follow the instructions in RSUINSTN.TXT.
Information on FixPaks and Year 2000 can be found at the Fixnews page
If this is your first time here or you have not taken the time to read the information below, I strongly urge you to do so before continuing with a FixPak download.
The most recent Software Updates (RSU) enabled FixPaks for each country are available here. For older FixPaks, you will have to download the diskette images and do a manual install. See below for more information
For Controlled FixPaks, you can use the RSU function by entering the userid and password in the URL Location field as follows:
Where
If you cannot use RSU for some reason, you can do a manual install by downloading the FixPak diskette images and CSF diskette images or self-extracting ZIP file. The CSF Diskettes or self-extracting zip file can be found here.
Follow instructions below to get the FixPak disk images.

Before you can install any FP using RSU on a Warp Server for e-Business machine, you must apply either APAR IC24998 or FixPak UN02101.
This link, IC24998 will get you the APAR IC24998. Please d/l the file into a sub-directory, execute it and follow the READ.ME enclosed to install the fix.
Warp Server for e-Business doesn't need to have the lastest RSUINST fixes d/l'ed and installed, it will work with either what was shipped with WSeB or the lastest posted via another link here. If you do take down the lastest though, either the APAR IC24998 or FixPak UN02101 must be re-applied after you update RSUINST.
If this is your first time here or you have not taken the time to read the information below, it is strongly urged you to do so before continuing with a FixPak download.
If you cannot use RSU for some reason, you can do a manual install by downloading the FixPak diskette images and CSF diskette images or self-extracting ZIP file. The CSF Diskettes or self-extracting zip file can be found here.
Follow instructions below to get the FixPak disk images.

Use this link to Uninstall (backout) aFixPak.
This is a "Generic" FixPak that can be used to backout any previously installed Warp 3, Warp 4 or Work Space On Demand Release 1 FixPak, US or NLV. It's very small and downloads quickly.
Remember to select the "Uninstall" button when you get the FixPak Installation window or use Advanced and select the "Change Product List" button.
Follow the instructions on this page to enable Netscape Navigator for OS/2 to use the Software Updates function ( also known as RSU - Remote Software Updates).
If you have previously configured Netscape to invoke RSUINST.EXE when a mime type of www/unknown is encountered, you should remove this setting. You can do this by using a INI file editor like INIEDIT and remove www/unknown from the Helpers keyword section, or you can change the Helpers Action from "Launch the Application" to "Unknown, Prompt User" and remove RSUINST.EXE from the Application area.
Netscape is now ready to use the RSU function.
Follow the instructions on this page to enable the IBM WebExplorer to use the Software Updates function ( also known as RSU - Remote Software Updates).
You only need to do the following steps if the IBM WebExplorer you are running is lower than Version 1.2, which is the version that was packaged with OS/2 Warp 4. The only way to get a copy of WebExplorer 1.2 is from the OS/2 Warp 4 CD-ROM.
Note: x: indicates the drive TCP/IP is installed on.
Note: The preceding steps will not upgrade your WebExplorer to V1.2. These steps will simply enhance your current release of the WebExplorer to support the new Software Updates function.
If you are trying to use RSU to a site outside the firewall from within IBM you must be running a "socksified" TCP/IP stack. Click Here For complete instructions.
If you have a problem getting RSU to work properly, be sure to gather any error messages you see and look at the RSU log file (c:\os2\install\rsuinst.log).
Problem: RC 81 from UNZIP
Solution: RC 81 from UNZIP means testing or extraction of one or more files failed due to unsupported compression methods or unsupported decryption. This happens if you are using the 5.40 version of UNZIP which stopped supporting the "shrinking" compression method earlier versions like 5.32 used for some files.
Revert to the older 5.32 version of UNZIP that is in the latest RSUINST.EXE self-extracting zip file or recompile the newer version and include "shrink" support.
Problem: RC 50 from UNZIP
Solution: RC 50 from UNZIP means you ran out of space during the extraction process. You need to make more room on the drive or select another drive to download to.
It can also be caused by the unzip of the CSF zip file trying to overlay the currently inuse UNZIP.EXE in the $rsutmp$ directory. This has been fixed by removing UNZIP.EXE (RXFTP.DLL and REPMOD.EXE as well) from the CSF zip files as of October 15, 1998. If you get RC 50 and are not short on disk space, delete the $rsutmp$ directory and start over. That should resolve the problem.
Problem: RSUINST Automatic Update fails
Solution: Check your Web browser setup. Make sure you have specified the fully qualified path to RSUINST.EXE, not just RSUINST.EXE. Also make sure you have the latest RSUINST.
Problem: RSU hangs when FTPINSTL.EXE is started
Solution: You need RSUINST.EXE v1.78 or later. Click here and follow the instructions to update.
Problem: Command failed DIR rsucsf.zip zp.
Solution: You are getting a "500 Illegal Port command" when the DIR command is issued. To verify, do a manual FTP to the target site, login and try DIR. See if you get the 500 error.
If you do then the problem is probably caused by the socks server you are using. It has disabled active FTP (only supports passive FTP) while RSU currently requires active FTP to be enabled.
Solution: Try a different socks server.
Solution: You were unable to make a successful connection to the FTP server. The FTP server could be down or unusually busy. Wait awhile and try again later.
Solution: Get the latest RSU code (RSUINST.EXE, RXFTP.DLL, UNZIP.EXE ) Click here and follow the instructions to update.
Also fully qualify the path to RSUINST.EXE in your Netscape Helper Application for mime type application/rsu.
Solution: If you are attempting to connect from a proxy server, this will not work. Only connections from a socks server are currently supported. You can test this by trying to logon to the FTP server from an OS/2 command line. If the command line connection works, but RSU fails, you are probably not using a socks server and will not be able to use RSU.
Solution: The files must be copied to your local hard drive. Be sure you have enough disk space on your TCPIP drive (x:\TCPIP\TMP). Also ensure you have SET TMP = x:\TCPIP\TMP in your CONFIG.SYS file.
Go to the OS/2 Fixes, Drivers, Files and News page.
